Champagne Export Statistics

The CIVC announced export figures for 2008. Australia was up by 10% over 2007, but the US and UK markets had major crashes.
Total volumes were down by 4.82% - to 322,453,852 bottles. The huge UK market was down by 7.86%, US market down by nearly 21%. Germany down by 10%. Australia was up by 10.25% to 3,648,022 bottles - just beating the Netherlands into 9th place overall. Can Australia keep the momentum into 2009? I suspect that there was a big buying frenzy by the big house importers to use up there 'good value currency' going in to 2009.

Some of the slack was taken up by Russia with a growth of 28%, Austria and Hong Kong had growths of 13% and China had a growth of nearly 37% up to a tiny 896,896 bottles.
